Project 39-B was SEDS@UCF's initial look into building a rocket that could pass the Karman line (100km, 328k feet), and take a photo of the curvature of the Earth. This challenge has only been undertaken by a handful of groups, and even less university teams. 


The team launched a test rocket to test an experiment live video system in January of 2025. but the live video system proved to be too bulky for the overarching goal and was removed.


Additionally, while the original scope included the building of the rocket and launch of the rocket at BALLS 2025, numerous areas were identified where the club lacked the knowledge to safely build and execute this final phase. Instead, the project focused heavily on the design and simulation of a 2-stage rocket, attempting to address pain points that other teams had faced previously.


Ultimately the project was placed on hold while the club developed the necessary skills to make the project easier and more likely to succeed. These took the form of the following projects:

39-B was led by Micah Iversen in the Summer and Fall of 2024, and Keagan Bowman in the Spring of 2025.
