The continuation of [Phoenix 1](wiki:phoenix-1), this project built on the lessons learned to address issues identified on the previous rocket through the 2024-2025 school year.
Similar to Phoenix 1, this rocket was flown as an entry to the [Friends of Amateur Rocketry Unlimited 2025 competition (FAR-UNL)](https://friendsofamateurrocketry.org/launch-contests/) under the SRAD Solid category. Due to this, it had to eject a water ballast of 500ml at apogee, as well as host another payload.
The secondary payload was known as "Firefly" - a drone that would deploy after the rocket had deployed it's main parachute on decent, and return to the launch site. Unfortunately, due to unknown reasons, the drone deployed but did not return to the home site. Signal from the drone was lost during the main decent, and it is speculated to have either overheated or lost power.
In the Spring of 2025, the project elected to also include a live video system, which was taken from [Project 39-B](wiki:39-b). The video system was able to successfully relay approximately 19 seconds of footage before the camera overheated. However, this was enough to qualify for the live video payload category of the competition.
The rocket successfully deployed it's drogue and main, and was recovered without incident (barring the loss of the drone). It reached a final height of 11,1779 feet according to the onboard Stratologger flight computer.
